Click Options on the top menu bar to bring up its sub-menu. For Microsoft Outlook on Windows, including the version that’s part of the Microsoft 365 suite, start a message. Here’s how to request a confirmation that a message has been read, based on your favorite email program. On a Mac computer, you'll see a similar setup. On a Windows machine, choose the Options tab as you compose email and you'll see check boxes to request delivery and read receipts. The recipient can choose not to provide a read receipt if their computer, tablet or phone prompts them to send an automatic message, but the following advice works more often than not. Thankfully, some tools can confirm whether someone has read your message. In other instances, the recipient reads the message but does not reply and may claim never to have seen it! Annoying, right? Or perhaps the message ended up in your friend’s or colleague’s junk or spam folder. You’re certain you tapped or clicked Send, but somehow it got lost in the ether of cyberspace. However, sometimes an email, instant message or text fails to go through. You may see a little number on the Email or Messages icon to tell you how many unread messages are waiting for you. The messages sit there in an inbox or in bold text on your phone until they are fetched. I hope this helps get a better understanding of the situation.A big difference between turn-based communication - emails, texts and apps like Facebook Messenger - and real-time communication via the phone or video chat is that you can reply to a message when you’re ready. The solution seems to be to simply turn off the iMessaging but this will turn off the benefits of iMessaging between iPhone users. Its supposed to send you a read receipt when sending a picture message and iMessage is turned on. This is how the operating system on your phone was meant to behave. It would be great if the Apple operating system had the option to NOT receive read receipts when sending a picture message but it seems this is how it was conceiv!Įd (this may have also been different a few years ago on an older Apple iOS) Since Androids are set by default to send a report when requested, you are receiving delivery reports for picture messages sent to Androids (this may not be the case on older Androids with older operating systems but the newer ones like mine are set like this). iMessage is set by default to request delivery reports if one is available. The iPhone menu does not have the same options, you can only toggle on and off the Read receipts if YOU want to send a receipt for a message that you received and read, you cannot turn off the option to NOT receive delivery reports. Androids are set by default to Allow Delivery Reports when requested, this can be turned off though on individual devices. In and Android device there is the option to Request a Delivery report and to also Allow Delivery reports to be sent when requested. ![]() ![]() An iPhone can only receive these read receipts when iMessage is on. Every other Apple device I tested was also receiving a read receipt when they sent me a picture message and iMessage was ON, but not when it was off. I have done some more research and testing since we chatted earlier. I also do not have an Advanced Messaging feature on my phone. This cannot be a Samsung thing cause my Android we were testing with is and LG. Tech support got back to me again as I wondered if it had to do with old software on Samsung phones.
